The call
A Columbia homeowner had multiple leaks and a roof at the end of its life across the board — the point where chasing leaks one at a time stops making sense. They came to us on a referral from our friends in the HVAC trade at Comfort Control.
What we did
- Stripped the roof to the deck and inspected the decking before anything went back on.
- New synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield in the valleys and around every penetration, and new flashing where the roof meets the chimney.
- Built a chimney cricket that the house never had — the small peaked saddle behind the chimney that splits water around it instead of letting it pond against the brick. One of the reasons it leaked.
- Added a rain diverter above the front door so the entry stops taking a sheet of water off the roof edge.
- Charcoal architectural shingles laid to the manufacturer's nailing pattern, with new ridge cap along every ridge and hip.
- Site cleaned and swept for nails before we left.
