The call
A Blythewood homeowner had a stain on the ceiling. Another roofing company had already been out and could not find the leak. Our friends at Comfort Control, an HVAC company, checked the system to rule it out and found the real problem: the pipe boot around the plumbing vent on the roof.
What we did
- Confirmed the leak at the pipe boot. The rubber collar had cracked open around the vent pipe, and that is where the water was getting in.
- Lifted the shingles, pulled the old boot and checked the decking underneath. It was dry — no wet decking.
- Laid ice and water shield around the pipe before the new boot went on, as a second line of defense against a future leak.
- Installed a new pipe boot and worked the shingles back in around it.
- The rest of the 15-year-old architectural shingle roof was in good shape. A repair, not a replacement, and we said so.
- The homeowner left us a five-star review.
